Each year, on 11 April, Hungarians come together to celebrate The Day of Hungarian Poetry. As a part of this event, held on the birthday of famed Hungarian poet Attila József since 1964, people young and old celebrated the inspiring achievements of their country’s greatest literary geniuses.

The Birth of Colours is a one-hour total-art performance with a 57-member mixed choir, four narrators, percussion instruments and singing bowls. The composer is the Italian Lucio Ivaldi, and the libretto was written by American poet David Brendan Hopes.

In the evening of 20 August, the day that marks the anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian State, more than half a million people watched the ceremonial fireworks display held on the Danube Banks. The ceremonial events attracted much attention and were held in high spirits; thousands of tourists were able to share the festive atmosphere of one of Hungary’s greatest national holidays.

The celebrations will begin on August 19 when the 'Street of Hungarian Flavours' will open at noon between the Buda side of the Erzsébet híd and Bem tér. Awards will be presented for Hungary’s best cake, sugar-free cake and ice cream. Pop music will play on Clark Ádám tér and on Bem tér from 8pm. The name of the Robert Burns International Foundation Sponsor of the Year was revealed to a crowd of 75,000 on January 14, 2012, with Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United Football Club, and the RBIF’s Honorary President, presenting the trophy to David Wood, commercial director of Tesco Global Áruházak Zrt.
